ONLYTHANKS is a three-part video installation work examining systems of relation between consciousness, power, and social order.
Across the works, spoken texts move between meditation and observation: an animal withdrawing from human awareness, electricity held within structures of use, security guards maintaining the quiet stability of objects and space. Each piece considers forms of distance that have become ordinary; between instinct and knowledge, energy and intimacy, labor and thought.
The title ONLYTHANKS gestures toward gratitude, prayer, repetition, and offering, while also invoking the reduced language of transactional life. A phrase of acknowledgment becomes both devotional and functional: repeated to the point of emptiness, yet still carrying the trace of relation and dependence. Throughout the work, thanks appears less as celebration than as condition – a way of remaining beside systems we continue to inhabit.
The videos move through states of attention rather than linear story. Language circles its subjects through repetition and redefinition, tracing inherited structures that shape perception and behavior before they are fully recognized. Acts of watching, guarding, directing, and enduring take on ritual qualities; repetition becomes contemplative, resignation rhythmic.
ONLYTHANKS asks what kinds of relation remain possible once experience has already been assigned purpose, value, and position, and whether attention, acknowledgment, or gratitude can still function as forms of nearness within a world increasingly organized by utility and separation.
